Parent Foundation Class

“I respect children as my teachers…
I radiate respect for them.” –Shinichi Suzuki

The Parent Foundation Class is offered each fall. Many teachers require parents to take this class. The purpose of the class is to discuss the philosophy of the Suzuki method and to teach the parent how to play the Twinkle variations to help them better understand how to help the child
. The parent is the home teacher and is a vital part of the Suzuki Triangle- student, parent, teacher.

Four of the 8 classes will be Every Child Can. This course is sponsored by the Suzuki Association of America and will be presented by Gail Johansen. In the four remaining classes the parent will learn to play the Twinkle Variations and learn about working with the child using the “Suzuki Philosophy”.There will be assignments to complete during the week. At the completion of the 8 week course the parent will receive a certificate of completion if they have attended at least 7 of the sessions and completed the assignments.

The class starts the 1st Thursday in October at University Park School on Loftus Road. The fee is $175 plus a materials fee. Four of the class sessions will be the “Every Child Can!" (ECC) course that is certified by the Suzuki Association of America**.  The remaining classes include hands on sessions with instruments.  It is possible to take the ECC portion only, at a cost of $120. The class is for adults only. You need to make child care arrangements for the time you will be in class.

**”Every Child Can!” (ECC) is an introduction to Dr. Suzuki’s philosophy and its application to Suzuki Education.  Designed for experienced and prospective Suzuki teachers, music educators, parents and others, this new course provides an inspiring, in-depth look at the Suzuki approach to teaching and learning.  A fast-paced and engaging program, ECC includes new video materials and provides each participant with useful reference materials for later study.  For teachers, ECC serves as the required first course in the SAA Teacher Development Program.
